The Proposal by Gloria

July 1, 2008

We were on Oahu, Hawaii to celebrate our good friends' wedding. It was a fabulous time to reconnect with our friends from San Francisco and getting to know new ones. Since we've been to Hawaii before, we promptly took over the role of tour guide, bringing them all over the island, making stops at all of our favorite spots. After the long day, we tried to convince everyone to join us to watch the sunrise the next morning. Did we get any takers, nah!

The alarm went off before 5am and I promptly tried to convince Davin to skip the sunrise. ^_^ Davin insisted that it was our tradition and a trip to Hawaii wouldn't be complete without sunrise at our favorite beach. I agreed and begrudgingly pulled on anything I could find and passed out on the bed while waiting for Davin to get ready. He was taking his time - shaving, fixing his hair, picking his clothes. Clearly, he knew that there was a photo op in the near future.

As soon as we drove out of the hotel, we felt the pitter patter of the rain in Waikiki. We convinced ourselves island weather was unpredictable and there was a very good chance that it wouldn't be raining on the other side of the island. As we raced against the rising sun, the weather did not let up. By the time we pulled up to the shore, the sky was bright, yet the sun was nowhere to be found - it was hiding behind the storm clouds.

We made the most of it. I played with my camera. Davin watched. Until finally, Davin spoke. He said, "Gloria, I'm sorry we waited until our last day to come here, we could have made it any other morning and it would have been perfect." I replied, "Oh baby, any day spent with you will always be perfect, as long as we're together!" (What a great segue!) Davin said, "Well in that case..." and before even reaching into his pocket, I was in tears. After all the years of waiting for this moment, I was in disbelief. Once I was finally convinced he was being serious, I said, "Yes!"
